What we store
Hype Climb stores:
- Page views -- a daily count of visits per page, keyed to two pseudonymous digests: one for your device (your IP address and the identification your browser sends) and one for your address alone. Both are computed with a random key that exists for a single day and is then destroyed, so they cannot be linked across days or back to you. The address and the identification are inputs only -- to those digests and to the rough categories below; neither is ever stored.
- Referring site -- when you arrive from a link on another site, we store the domain name only (e.g.
google.com), never the full address, path, or anything after it. The raw row is erased after the retention period; a count of views and of visitors per domain per day is kept as an aggregate trend, like the daily totals. It holds a domain name and two counts, no digest and nothing that identifies a visitor. - Device and browser -- a rough category worked out from the identification your browser sends: whether it is a phone, tablet or desktop, plus a browser and operating-system name from a short fixed list (anything unrecognised is recorded as
other). No version numbers, no raw identification string, nothing that singles out your device. The raw row is erased after the retention period; a count of views and of visitors per device class per day is kept as an aggregate trend, like the daily totals. It holds a category and two counts, no digest and nothing that identifies a visitor. - Preference cookies -- your interface language (
locale), your colour theme (theme), and the calendar month you last viewed (calendar_month). Each holds nothing but your choice and lasts up to a year. - A session cookie --
_isobar_session, a technical cookie holding only a form-security token. It carries no identity, is never used for tracking, and expires when you close your browser.
Nothing else is stored about you.
How long we keep it
- Raw page views are erased automatically after 30 days; the daily totals they roll up into are kept as an aggregate trend.
- Hype-score history (used to show a game's trend over time) is kept in full detail for 365 days, then as one reading every 7 days for as long as we hold the game.
- Other internal history (hype signals, job-run audit rows) is kept for 90 days.
